DOC Dortmunder OberflächenCentrum
Thinking the Future of Steel Surfaces
Surface engineering has become established as an important subfield of materials technology. Many of the properties of a material, such as resistance to corrosion, wear and scratches, are determined by its surface.

Silver Ice® UV - new stainless steel coating with anti-fingerprint properties
Fingerprints can detract from the appearance of stainless steel products. The transparent and wear-resistant Silver Ice® UV coating, on which we reported in the December 2005 issue of ThyssenKrupp techforum, prevents fingerprints and thus keeps stainless steel surfaces looking good.

European project Solabs®
Rising energy supply costs are pushing up demand for renewable energies. Solar thermal energy is developing into a growth market of great interest to the steel industry. As part of the European project Solabs®, steel-based solar absorbers are being developed for use as facade elements in steel buildings. The design of the absorbers is an important architectural factor in raising acceptance for solar thermal technology. The challenge was to develop an unglazed, colored solar absorber based on coated steel sheet. (available in german only)
