The Industry division with the IDS, Heavy Plate and Color profit centers supplies roughly eight million metric tons of flat-rolled carbon steel per year to customers mainly in Germany and the rest of the EU. Standardized production routes for specific products permit effective planning and optimized plant loading. The production lines are tailored to the requirements of the products and customers to enhance product quality, delivery performance and service. Sales teams are organized on a cross-product basis, which means that each customer deals with just one contact person.
The IDS profit center (Industry, Distribution, Steel Service) is responsible for business with re-rollers, processors and distributors. It produces and sells carbon steel flat products, some of which are processed into end products by other Group companies or external customers. The Heavy Plate profit center, produces around 1 million metric tons of quarto and cut-to-length plate per year. Specialties within the broad product range include high-strength wear-resistant special structural steels for highly stressed steel structures such as earthmoving machinery and dump trucks, as well as quenched and tempered plates for mobile cranes and booms. The Color profit center is responsible for special customer requirements in the area of organic coated sheets. These “prefinished” steels have many applications in the home appliance, teletronics, automobile, construction and building supplies sectors.
Flat products are processed to customer specification by our European ThyssenKrupp Stahl Service Center organization. Value is added by supplying slit strip, sheet or blanks in line with customer requirements using starting material from ThyssenKrupp Steel. For this, our steel service companies have efficient processing facilities in Leverkusen, Bochum, Mannheim, Breyell and Radebeul. We also hold a majority interest in Herzog Coilex GmbH in Stuttgart. The company also has activities outside Germany in the form of our subsidiaries ThyssenKrupp Service Acier in France, ThyssenKrupp Stal Serwis Polska in Poland as well as a 50 percent interest in Thyssen Ros Casares in Spain.
The companies of the Construction Group of ThyssenKrupp Steel process steel into high-quality products for the construction industry.
