Production technology

When it comes to advanced production technologies, ThyssenKrupp Steel leads the way.

In 1999 we began operation of Europe’s first ever casting/rolling line in an integrated steel mill. Another important step forward was the commissioning of the world’s most advanced cold rolling mill, featuring a high-tech tandem mill coupled with a pickling line. It allows the production of high-quality strip in extremely wide and thin sizes.

Another major investment effort was the hot-dip coating line 8 in Dortmund, which adds to our capabilities in the key strategic area of coated products. The line specializes in products meeting very high requirements on surface condition and mechanical properties, as specified by the auto industry and increasingly also by the construction and appliance sectors. For the design of this line, ThyssenKrupp Steel was presented with the European Steel Design Award.

In the production of carbon steel flat products, key competitive factors alongside innovative process technology and optimum unit sizes are tailored production routes. In the new divisions, responsibility for production is structured according to locations and production is organized on a process-oriented basis.

To ensure consistent quality, our various units are combined into standard production routes according to specific customer groups. The same production routes are always used depending on product and customers.

Divisional production routes

The same production routes are used depending on product and customer. This chart gives an overview.
