Visitor Center

A site, almost five times as large as Monaco, on which as many people work as live in a small German town. The entire road network is equivalent to the distance between Essen and Cologne, while with the tracks used for freight transport it would be possible to connect the cities of Essen and Hamburg. Four blast furnaces produce more than 30,000 tons of pig iron here every day, corresponding to the production of around twelve million tons of steel a year. All of this can be found in the north of Duisburg, at the plant of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe.

The Steel Visitor Center is represented in four locations in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is administered centrally from Duisburg. This is where all enquiries are received and the wishes of the guests specifically matched to the location conditions.

We would like to acquaint visitors with the steel process, our products and innovations. Our team ensures that every year thousands of guests acquire unique impressions of blast furnaces, steelworks and rolling mills.

At the Duisburg location it is possible to experience the entire steel-making process from close up. It is here that you can find efficient production plants for pig iron and crude steel, as well as a large share of the rolling mill and further processing plants.

Our Dortmund location has a modern cold strip mill with additional continuous annealing and supplementary surface finishing lines. Hot-dip galvanizing plant 8 is the architectural highlight and has been awarded the European Steel Engineering Prize.

During the tour in Bochum, visitors can see one of our largest hot strip mills, a hot-dip galvanizing line, as well as other types of plant.

In the modern hot-dip and strip galvanizing plants, the delivered cold-rolled strip or the pickled hot strip are coated. The finishing and slitting lines at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG, as well as various production lines for structural element manufacture, can be seen here. The fields of application for “steel with a finished surface” range from the household appliance industry, telephonics and the automotive industry to the construction and construction materials industry.

A visit to Andernach is worthwhile: The creation of packaging steel and its diversity can be seen here – at the world’s largest production location for tinplate. Have we aroused your interest? Please click here for further information!
