scalur®+Z: Precision savings!

In the 1.5 to 2 millimeter thickness range scalur®+Z displays a thickness tolerance of plus/minus 0.06 millimeters – literally a hair’s breadth.

Crash-Simulation

1 million elements – 1 day of computing time – 1 crash?! We’re on it.

Unilaterally

Welding from one side – with no counter-electrode?!

We can do it.

ZM Ecoprotect®: Less is more!

Galvanized steel sheet is the basis for the production of cars – the “skin and skeleton” as it were.

Musically:

Steel that makes music, steel that is silent?! We know how.

Screwing

Screw connection and reusable thread in one?! We’ve got the right steel.

Tailored Tempering

Temperature zones in the die – strength zones in the part?! We’re on it.

To press release: "Customers save time and money"

High-bay storage

We serve to measure.

Steel to order – automatically from high-bay storage?! We know how.

Energy efficiency of steel

Case study: Wind turbines by Enercon.

Of course wind turbines save CO2 in power generation. But is that also true for their production and their entire lifecycle? Together with ENERCON thyssenkrupp Steel Europe implemented a logistics and production concept that shrinks the carbon footprint of wind turbines by a few shoe sizes.

Quality features

A discussion.

What makes quality management tick, what drives the people whose job it is? What does a company have to do to meet differing customer quality requirements? A discussion between Prof. Robert Schmitt, RWTH Aachen University, and Rudolf Schönenberg, thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, at the Turret Clock Museum in Bocholt.

scalur®+Z: Precision savings!

In the 1.5 to 2 millimeter thickness range scalur®+Z displays a thickness tolerance of plus/minus 0.06 millimeters – literally a hair’s breadth. So, scalur®+Z saves weight – in shipping containers, cars or trucks. It is also suitable for low-roughness, high precision punched parts. Furthermore, a coil of scalur®+Z on average contains 60 meters more material which reduces retooling times at the customer’s plant.

tribond®: A strong combination

tribond®is our innovative materials kit. It brings together materials previously regarded as difficult or impossible to combine, opening up completely new material worlds and applications.

ZM Ecoprotect®: Less is more!

Galvanized steel sheet is the basis for the production of cars – the “skin and skeleton” as it were.

By adding a small amount of magnesium to the zinc coating, engineers from thyssenkrupp’s steel division have made a big difference for the environment and customers: ZM EcoProtect conserves resources by allowing extremely thin coatings, enables presses and equipment to run longer thanks to lower abrasion, and extends the lifetime of car bodies.

New fabric filter for sinter plant

The filter is to go into operation in early 2017

At the end of 2015 thyssenkrupp’s steel division started construction of a further modern fabric filter in northern Duisburg. In the future it will further reduce dust emissions to make for an even better environmental situation in Duisburg.

New from old

Modernization of the hot strip mill I in Duisburg

After half of a century in continuous service it was time for the hot strip mill I in Duisburg-Bruckhausen to be renovated: besides a new automation system and new furnace burners featuring higher energy efficiency in the ovens, did the mill get an upgraded cooling system and modernized mill stands. Until the roughing mill, finishing mill and cooling section were finished, it was a rough but yet exciting way to go.

The beginning of a new age

When steel changes the world

Products and ideas of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe have already made a difference, but the world moves on: the demand for innovations increases; global changes are influencing the society and therefore our businesses. Worldwide, Steel Europe works daily with all its employees, the entire thyssenkrupp-group and with customers on ideas that define the beginning of a new age.

Light and strong at 900°C

As soft as wax in the press.

Hot forming is an increasingly important process for high-strength steels Parts become harder or formable, whatever the design calls for – and lighter! The right combination of heating and cooling in the die produces customized material properties.
