The Steel segment of the ThyssenKrupp Group is focused on the production and distribution of high-quality carbon steel flat products and the provision of product-related services. The segment is based on the operating holding company model and is led by ThyssenKrupp Steel AG as the largest single operating company. The customer- and process-oriented divisions and the subsidiaries allocated to them form the business units Steelmaking, Industry, Auto und Processing.

Steelmaking currently comprises the Metallurgy division, with its iron and steel making operations in Duisburg, and the transportation companies for raw material supplies. The steel mill ThyssenKrupp CSA Siderúrgica do Atlântico in Brazil will be added by 2009.

The Industry business unit serves a broad spectrum of customers in the steel processing sectors. It comprises the Industry division of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG, the European steel service centers and the companies allocated to the construction elements area.

The Auto business unit is based around the Auto division of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG along with the tailored blanks companies active in the automotive business and the North American steel service centers. The companies in the Processing business unit produce tinplate, medium-wide strip and grain-oriented steel and are focused on specialized markets with specific customer groups.
