thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG (“thyssenkrupp” or “we”) operates steel maps truck to provide drivers from external forwarders and shipping companies with an active navigation aid to help them find their way to the required shipping and loading points at the thyssenkrupp site.
We ensure compliance with the applicable data protection laws. In the following we provide a detailed overview of how we handle your data and rights.
1. Who is the controller and who is the data protection officer?

2. Which categories of data do we process for steel maps truck and where do they come from?
The categories of data processed include in particular
- Order data relating to transportation: transport number, forwarder, personID, driver name, vehicle number, shipping and loading point
- Movement and location data: Current location, distance to buildings, crossing of defined geographical boundaries
- Technical system data & authorizations: IP address, retrievals from and access to network connections, model, smartphone service configurations (e.g. system language, OS), camera for QR code scan and loudspeaker
- Possibly further data (if you have entered them in the app): app evaluation & feedback, language setting
The app registers your location only if and when you have approved this in the corresponding device settings. This also applies for use of the camera and loudspeaker in the device.
3. Who receives your data?
All personal data required for the use of steel maps truck are processed by the producer of the app (thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG). The responsible employees of the producer can access your personal data (e.g. for troubleshooting support logs, fault analysis). This access complies with applicable data protection regulations. Analyses for statistical purposes are carried out exclusively in anonymized form.
Data are only transmitted to affiliated thyssenkrupp companies and external service providers to provide you with e.g. road maps and satellite images for navigation in the app. All service providers are of course obligated to maintain data secrecy and confidentiality. No data are transmitted to other third parties. Your data will be encrypted before transmission and processing to protect them from unauthorized access.
4. For what purposes and on what legal basis are data processed?
We process your data in accordance with the provisions of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and all other applicable laws.
The personal data are collected, processed and stored for the purpose of using the app. The processing of your order data, your entries and use of the camera to scan the QR code are used for in-app authentication, requesting and providing relevant transport information, and using the navigation system. Your location data are collected and processed to create a route to your destination, permit active navigation in the app, identify your area ID in the event of an emergency and trigger an incident in the event that a defined geographical boundary is crossed, such as warnings about rail crossings or danger zones. Reading out language settings makes it possible to configure the display language in the app and the language in which the navigation is provided. When you use the app we process the IP address of your end device by default to enable data to be exchanged between the app and our servers. Your app ratings and feedback are collected anonymously to permit continuous development of the app.
Data processing for the purposes of steel maps truck is based on your consent*. Your consent is entirely voluntary and you are under absolutely no obligation to provide it. Not granting your consent has no negative consequences. You can withdraw your consent at any time with future effect.

5. How long are your data stored?
We will delete your data once they are no longer required for the purposes stated above, the app is deleted or you withdraw your consent.
6. Are you obligated to provide your data?
Use of steel maps truck is voluntary. Without the processing of your data as described under point 2 you cannot use steel maps truck.
7. How is steel maps truck installed?
steel maps truck can be obtained from third-party app stores (Google Play Store and Apple App Store). Your download may require prior registration in the corresponding app store and installation of the app store software. thyssenkrupp has no influence over the collection, processing and use of personal data in connection with your registration and the provision of downloads in the corresponding app store and the app store software. The sole controller in this instance is the operator of the corresponding app store. Please consult the app store provider directly where necessary.
8. Will your data be transmitted to a third country (outside the EU/EEA)?
Your data will not be transmitted to countries outside the EU.
9. What data protection rights can you assert as a data subject?
You have the right to access the data stored about you. Under certain circumstances, you also have the right to rectification or erasure of your data. You may also have the right to restrict the processing of your data and the right to receive the data you have provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format insofar as this does not adversely affect the rights and freedoms of others.
Right to withdraw consent
You have the right to withdraw given consent to the processing of your data at any time with future effect. Please note that this withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of previous processing and that it does not cover data processing where a legitimate interest exists and the data may therefore be processed without your consent.
