Complex components and powerful forming? No problem with our new high-ductility precidur® HSM 380 HD, HSM 420 HD and HSM 460 HD grades

Particularly in the case of safety-relevant components, functional and design aspects are playing an increasing role alongside reliability – which demands the highest forming capacity of the basic material. This is where the newly developed precidur® HSM 380 HD, HSM 420 HD and HSM 460 HD grades come in. Compared to the proven microalloyed fine-grain structural steels of the company, they offer increased forming potential with the same strength.

In most applications at present, microalloyed fine-grained structural steels are used by many direct processors with high cold formability requirements. However, "classic" MC variants are increasingly reaching their performance limits. The growing complexity of demanding components requires that little bit extra. This is exactly what our new High Ductility (HD) grades offer. In known strength ranges, their outstanding local forming reserves enable a reliable production process even for components that undergo complex forming operations.

While grades 380 and 420 are already available with immediate effect, the 460 grade is still under development. It is expected to be available for series production from spring 2024 onward.

Another advantage lies in the chemical composition, which has been specifically designed for the required properties. For example, the manganese content of less than 0.3% by weight allows higher revenues from the disposal of process scrap.

Already during the development phase of the 380 and 420 grade classes, test material was supplied to individual potential customers. The response was very positive throughout and changeovers to series production with the new materials have already taken place. Since they meet all the requirements of the DIN EN 10149 and VDA 239-100 standards, they can easily replace the previous MC variants.

They are currently available in dimensions from 2.15 to 5.0 mm and widths from 450 to 650 mm (HSM 380 HD) and 430 to 690 mm (HSM 420 HD) and can also be qualified for other dimensions at short notice if required.
