Micro-alloyed and highly ductile micro-alloyed thermo-mechanically rolled fine-grained structural steels

Highlight: Highly ductile micro-alloyed steel grades

Highly ductile micro-alloyed fine-grained structural steels are the go-to material when significantly improved formability for complex component geometries in axles or suspensions is required. They offer better formability and higher hole expansion values. The special microstructure of the highly ductile grades ensures stable mechanical properties (low scatter), the best prerequisite for high production reliability. Highly ductile micro-alloyed perform® HD steels are available as hot wide strip and as precision strip precidur® HSM HD with particularly narrow tolerances.

Microalloyed fine-grained structural steels

Normally the uncoated low-/micro-alloyed fine-grained structural steels perform® or precidur® HSM with yield strengths of 355 to 420 MPa are used for axle beams, transverse and trailing arms. The higher-strength micro-alloyed grades from 500 to 700 MPa offer weight-saving potential by a reduced sheet thickness. You can find hot-rolled hot-dip galvanized micro-alloyed steel grades according to DIN EN 10346 and VDA 239-100 here.

High-strength hot-rolled multi-phase steels

Bainitic chassis steel CH-W® is ideal for spring plates or single-skin control arms.
Bainitic chassis steel CH-W® is ideal for springs plates or single-skin control arms in chassis.

Highlight: Cassis steels

The bainitc chassis steel CH-W® is ideal for the complex, cold-formed chassis with high hole expansion requirements. As a consistent further development of the proven complex-phase steels, CH-W® in strength class 800 megapascal features a guaranteed hole expansion of at least 60 percent, improved elongation after fracture and flawless surfaces – with otherwise similar properties. Our chassis steel CH-W® is the lightweight solution for single-skin control arms and similarly demanding parts. The chassis steel CH-W® 660Y760T is available uncoated and hot-dip galvanized. Now ready for series production: the ultra-high-strength hot-rolled CH-W® 700Y950T chassis steel with a strength of 1000 megapascals.

The precision strip products of the precidur® HBS range with strengths of 600 to 1,000 MPa feature a favorable yield point and are very well suited for critical forming operations. Especially optimized for the forming of punched or cut edges.

Further hot-rolled multi-phase steels

Hot-rolled multi-phase steels like the dual-phase, complex-phase and ferritic-bainitic-phase steels allow to produce chassis parts with complex geometries, while featuring high strength values and a lightweight construction advantage over conventional high-strength steels.

Ferritic-bainitic phase steel FB-W® is the go-to material for robust, dynamically stressed and yet demanding chassis parts. The ferritic-bainitic microstructure lends the steels high strength and excellent cold forming properties. They possess a high fatigue strength and are easy to weld.

As compared to DP-W® steels, the complex-phase steels CP-W® offer very high strength and yield point values and are optimally suited for weight-optimized chassis parts. They are characterized by strong strain hardening even with only minor deformation forces. CP-W® steels can be easily cold formed and welded.

The dual-phase steels DP-W® are characterized by high strength, low yield point and good fatigue strength. They boast excellent formability and weldability - especially in the thicker plate segment – and a good surface quality.

Manganese boron steels for precision steel tubes

Precision steel tube made of tubor® manganese boron steels for stabilizers in the chassis.
Precision steel tube made of tubor® manganese boron steels for stabilizers in the chassis.

Highlight: tubor® steels

Owing to their excellent forming properties, our application-optimized manganese boron steels of the tubor® range are ideally suited for welded, cold-rolled or cold-drawn precision steel tubes. Precision tubes made of tubor® steels are characterized by a high stability and withstand high dynamic stresses. Therefore, they are optimally suited for crash-relevant parts like stabilizers and - compared to solid material - offer an enormous advantage in terms of cost and weight reduction.

The material has a homogeneous and fine-grained microstructure with low sulfur and phosphorus content. Special technical processes are employed to significantly minimize segregation in the microstructure. Through optimized production in combination with an analysis tailored to the end application, tubor® steel grades offer higher strength and improved ductility after quenching and tempering.

Case hardening steels precidur®

Boron-alloyed case hardening steels precidur® are supplied in accordance with DIN EN ISO 683-2 and Stahl-Eisen list. They are a low-cost alternative for substituting heat-treatable steels and offer much better cold formability owing to their low carbon content. Even in the hot-rolled condition boron steels display good processing and forming properties. Their strength can be adjusted to the specific purpose by means of a annealing treatment. In the chassis, precidur® HLB grades are used for rear axle tubes, for example.

Low carbon steels and structural steels for steel wheels.

Uncoated, hot-rolled low carbon steels and unalloyed structural steels offer cost-effective solutions for the chassis with simple geometries. Structural steels are used as standard in wheels and in the steering system, whereas low carbon steels are used for various brackets for mounting shock absorbers, for example.
