perform® – hot-rolled micro-alloyed and highly ductile micro-alloyed steel for the automotive industry

Hot-rolled micro-alloyed and highly ductile micro-alloyed steel for the automotive industry.

Higher-strength hot-rolled steels for cold forming – an attractive solution for vehicle and commercial vehicle construction

When high strength and excellent forming properties for weight-optimized complex components and component groups are required, such as the wheel suspension in the chassis or the axle construction of trucks, hot-rolled micro-alloyed steels of thyssenkrupp Steel, HR300LA to HR700LA in accordance with VDA 239-100 or S315MC to S700MC in accordance with DIN EN 10149-2, are the go-to materials.

Micro-alloyed steels are characterized by particularly low sulfur contents, low carbon contents and microalloys of niobium, vanadium, titanium and their combination – the latter is used to obtain different strength variants. Micro-alloyed steels possess excellent forming and welding properties. Moreover, the extremely fine-grained microstructure results in excellent toughness combined with a low susceptibility to cold cracking. New in our product portfolio: Micro-alloyed HD grades featuring a significantly narrower range of mechanical properties and increased elongation at fracture compared to the standard.

Thermo-mechanically rolled higher-strength steel for cold forming is available as uncoated hot wide strip and cut-to-length sheet in accordance with VDA 239-100 and DIN EN 10149-2, in accordance with the perform® product information and in the scalur® variant. The portfolio comprises a variety of strength values with yield strengths ranging from 300 to 700 MPa – the best prerequisite for optimum material selection to meet the requirements of the component in question.

Excellent processing properties for automotive construction: new highly ductile micro-alloyed (HD) steels with uniform properties and improved elongation at break

Owing to their good processing performance, hot-rolled micro-alloyed steels have proved their value in automotive construction – particularly for chassis and seats. The new highly ductile (HD) grades of thyssenkrupp Steel boast a uniform property profile tailored to the intended use as well as an improved forming potential. If the right material is selected, the weight of the component can also be reduced.

Novel micro-alloyed HD grades for optimum component-related material selection

Be it in seat components such as underbody side parts and seat rails, axles or wheel suspensions: Component geometries are becoming increasingly complex and the demand for their dimensional accuracy is rising, while in parallel material strengths continue to increase. In short: the automotive industry demands improved material properties. We meet these requirements by novel hot-rolled micro-alloyed HD grades featuring a significantly narrower range of mechanical properties and increased elongation at break compared to the standard. The HD grades are available based on VDA 239-100 and DIN EN 10149-2.

Consistently easy to process

The special alloy of the new highly ductile micro-alloyed steel grades ensures stable mechanical properties – best prerequisites for high production reliability. A high yield strength ratio gives the designer sufficient leeway to prevent possible component failure due to overloading. The very low carbon equivalent lends micro-alloyed steels outstanding welding properties.

thyssenkrupp Steel provides extensive material data for selected hot-rolled steels in order to exploit the potential of the new HD grades to the full and predict forming and crash behavior by means of simulation.

The new micro-alloyed HD steels are characterized by a much narrower range of mechanical properties compared to the standard and have a significantly increased elongation at fracture.
