We believe that a diverse workforce is our greatest strength and therefore promote a corporate culture that actively embraces and values diversity and inclusion.
Our workforce is characterized by a variety of individual characteristics, skills and knowledge. This diversity enriches our community and makes us strong. Different nationalities, cultures, religions, age groups, genders, people with and without disabilities as well as different sexual orientations and identities contribute to our strength.
We are committed to creating an environment in which differences are valued and no one is excluded. At thyssenkrupp Steel, we unleash the potential of a diverse community.

Gender equality at Steel
Increasing the proportion of women in management positions
At thyssenkrupp Steel, we attach great importance to promoting a balanced gender ratio - both in our workforce and at management level. We have set ourselves two ambitious targets:
To achieve these targets, we actively promote female empowerment. We encourage and support women in realizing their career goals and developing their talents in an appreciative environment.
Our in-house women's network Web of Women (wow@steel) offers women in all professional groups and hierarchical levels the opportunity to network and exchange ideas. Formats such as the klar:text feMale edition address topics such as different career paths and personal stories of women at thyssenkrupp.
Balancing work and family life
Work is a big part of our lives. But we must not forget the other part. That's why we attach great importance to a healthy balance between work and private life. Work-life balance is an integral part of our diversity management.
To make this possible, we offer our employees various individual options, including
Our Stahlsternchen daycare center in Duisburg looks after up to 90 children of employees. At other locations, we work together with service providers to cover individual childcare needs. In addition, our social services offer support in challenging life situations, such as caring for family members or in times of psychosocial crisis.

Support for people with disabilities
Inclusion & workshops
Our employees are our most valuable asset and the foundation of our future. At thyssenkrupp Steel, we take social responsibility together, especially for those whose performance has changed due to illness or strokes of fate. Through preventive concepts and a modern working environment, we promote self-determined and equal participation in working life - a benefit for everyone.
We currently employ around 1,370 people with disabilities at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG (as of 09/2024).
Since 2015, we have been expressly committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities and see this as a special corporate obligation. Our goal is to make it easier for people with disabilities to join thyssenkrupp and to support them in order to enable equal participation and inclusion of all people in society.
With innovative concepts such as the company café “Stulle & Stahl” or the specially created brand “august&alfred”, we show how creative and successful such approaches can be.
Pride@Steel
Our aspiration at thyssenkrupp Steel is clear: We want to create an inclusive working environment in which all employees are treated fairly - regardless of their gender identity or sexual orientation. No one should have to hide their identity for fear of reactions in the workplace. Because only those who can be authentic will feel comfortable and be able to develop their full potential.
Since 2023, a committed network of over 70 employees has been working to promote the interests of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual people (LGBTQIA+) at thyssenkrupp Steel. Allys are expressly welcome. The members of the network provide information, raise awareness of LGBTQIA± issues, reduce prejudice and promote tolerance. They do this by producing brochures, materials for managers and organizing events, among other things. They work closely with the queer network pride@tk at thyssenkrupp AG. One highlight is the annual participation in Christopher Street Day.
thyssenkrupp has been a member of the PROUT AT WORK foundation since 2016 and has been certified as a PROUT EMPLOYER ever since.
