thyssenkrupp Steel: Supervisory Board appoints Georgios Giovanakis to the Executive Board as Chief Sales Officer
- Georgios Giovanakis to join the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG as full member, effective June 1, 2026
- He will take charge of the newly created, standalone Sales division as Chief Sales Officer (CSO)
- Strategic rationale: Strengthening of market position, enhancing customer focus and resilience in a volatile market environment
Duisburg, May 6, 2026 – At its meeting today, the Supervisory Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG appointed Georgios Giovanakis as a full member of the Executive Board, effective June 1, 2026. Giovanakis will head the newly created Sales division and assume the role of Chief Sales Officer (CSO). The innovation and quality division will also fall under the CSO's remit going forward. The aim is to consolidate customer-facing functions under a single executive mandate.
Greater strategic weight for Sales

"Georgios Giovanakis stands for a clear strategic direction for the sales operations built around value creation, customer focus, and competitiveness – all decisive factors toward thyssenkrupp Steel's successful transformation."
Extensive experience in management roles within the thyssenkrupp Group
Georgios Giovanakis can look back on over 25 years of management experience in the steel and materials industry. From 2019 to 2025 he served as CEO of thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel GmbH. Prior to that, he held numerous executive and board positions in Germany and abroad, including CFO of Undercarriages/Berco, CFO of Acciai Speciali Terni, CFO/CEO of Shanghai Krupp Stainless, and CFO/CEO of Terninox SpA. He has already been a member of the extended Executive Board since January 1, 2026, overseeing the Sales operations within the CEO's remit.
