thyssenkrupp Steel restructures top management: forgoing of fifth Executive Board position, clear downscaling of top management tier

Duisburg, March 25, 2025 – The Supervisory Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG has approved a major overhaul of its top management at an extraordinary meeting, following a proposal by the Steel Executive Board. The restructuring includes forgoing the previously planned fifth Executive Board position. Additionally, the senior leadership tier below the Executive Board will be downscaled by approximately one-third.

The Executive Board will now consist of the following members:

  • Dennis Grimm, Spokesman of the Executive Board and Chief Operating Officer (SEB & COO), with responsibility for overall production operations and the company’s strategic development;
  • Philipp Conze, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), responsible for results-driven corporate management, as well as digitalization, procurement, and energy matters;
  • Marie Jaroni, Chief Sales Officer and Chief Transformation Officer (CSO & CTO), with responsibility for sales and the company’s competition-oriented transformation;
  • Dirk Schulte, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), overseeing personnel strategy and processes to maintain a high-performing workforce.

This management reshuffle is part of a broader structural realignment for the Duisburg-based steel manufacturer. Central to the plan is a market-driven reduction in production capacity, from the current 11.5 million metric tons to a future shipping volume of 8.7 to 9 million metric tons per year, aligning with anticipated market demands. Alongside this, significant cuts to personnel costs are planned to achieve a more competitive cost structure.

Ilse Henne, Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG: "This realignment is crucial to putting thyssenkrupp Steel back on the path to success and ensuring its competitiveness. Bold changes are necessary to this end, and we have now taken the first step in that direction."

Dennis Grimm, Spokesman of the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp Steel Europe: "We have significantly altered and downscaled our management structure. Our entire organization needs to become leaner, more efficient, and more flexible to achieve a competitive cost level. The restructuring of our management and the decision to forgo an additional Executive Board position that had originally been planned reflect this imperative."
