thyssenkrupp Steel at Coiltech USA 2025: High-performance electric benches for sustainable e-mobility and energy-efficient transformers

  • Innovative materials for e-mobility: On June 11 and 12, 2025, thyssenkrupp Steel will present its high-performance electrical steel grades at Coiltech USA 2025 in Novi, Michigan. The focus will be on the powercore® and powercore® traction brands, including the new grade NGO 025-125Y420, which features exceptionally low core losses and high mechanical strength.
  • Sustainable solutions with bluemint®: The portfolio is complemented by CO2-reduced electrical steel under the bluemint® brand, which offers identical material properties while helping customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions.
  • Expert presence at the event: Two expert presentations by Pascal Wellhäußer (Supply Chain for Transformers) and Lars Bode (E-Mobility Solutions) will highlight thyssenkrupp Steel’s technological expertise and commitment to sustainable innovation.
  • Coiltech USA as an industry meeting point: Coiltech USA 2025 targets professionals in the fields of electric motors, transformers, and generators. It offers a focused platform for innovation across the entire coil winding technology value chain.

Duisburg, June 5, 2025 – At Coiltech USA 2025, taking place on June 11 and 12 in Novi, Michigan, thyssenkrupp Steel will showcase its latest developments in the field of non-oriented electrical steel (NO). The spotlight will be on the powercore® and powercore® traction brands, which stand for maximum energy efficiency in electric motors and generators – especially in the context of sustainable mobility solutions.

Innovation for E-Mobilität: powercore® traction NGO 025-125Y420

A highlight is the new premium e-mobility grade powercore® traction NGO 025-125Y420. With a thickness of just 0.25 mm and a mechanical strength of at least 420 MPa, it is among the most powerful electrical steel grades produced in Europe. Thanks to an optimized alloying concept, the material achieves core losses of no more than 12.5 W/kg at 400 Hz and 1 Tesla – a top value by international standards.

“With this grade, we are setting new benchmarks for the efficiency of electric drives in the automotive industry,” explains Lars Bode, Head of Sales for Non-Oriented Electrical Steel at thyssenkrupp Steel. “Our customers benefit from significantly reduced energy losses and improved performance of their drive systems.”

Preview of the Next Generation: powercore® traction 020-120Y420

By the end of 2025, the next generation will be available: powercore® traction 020-120Y420. With a thickness of just 0.20 mm and core losses of only 12 W/kg, while maintaining a strength of 420 MPa, this material is designed for ultra-efficient electric drives. It specifically addresses the requirements of next-generation premium and high-performance vehicles.

Contribution to Sustainability in the Supply Chain

“As a leading producer of grain-oriented electrical steel, we see it as our responsibility to actively contribute to the decarbonization of power transmission and distribution networks,” says Pascal Wellhäußer, Head of Sales West Customers, Market & Technology at thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel. Grain-oriented electrical steel from thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel forms the core of transformers – key components in the energy infrastructure value chain and essential for a climate-friendly energy future.

By using CO2-reduced materials, thyssenkrupp helps significantly reduce the carbon footprint of these critical infrastructures. The entire portfolio is supplemented by CO2-reduced variants under the bluemint® brand. These electrical steel grades offer the same material properties and processability as conventional grades, while enabling a substantial reduction in Scope 3 emissions. In this way, thyssenkrupp Steel actively contributes to the decarbonization of the automotive and energy value chains.
