precidur® HBS bainitic steel – The innovative solution for demanding applications

Bainitic steel

precidur® HBS bainitic steel from thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg stands for maximum precision and quality of narrow strip. Developed for the special requirements of modern chassis and structural components, this cold-forming steel offers an essentially single-phase bainitic microstructure.

The grade has high work hardening and extended hole expansion capacity as well as a particularly favorable yield strength ratio. This makes it ideal for critical forming operations especially for forming punched or cut edges, such as in an integral beam.

Typical applications for precidur® HBS:

  • Chassis and structural components in automotive engineering
  • Components with high requirements for strength and formability

Your benefits using precidur® HBS

  • Excellent formability: Thanks to its optimized microstructure, bainitic steel is ideal for complex components with high requirements in terms of work hardening and hole expansion.
  • Tight tolerances: Precise thickness and profile tolerances of precidur® HBS ensure consistently high quality and optimum further processing.
  • High flexibility: precidur® HBS bainitic steel is available in batch sizes tailored to requirements and production, with various surfaces (pickled/unpickled) and edge options (natural edge/cut edge).
  • Fast, competent service: thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg offers short delivery times, high availability, and individual advice.

precidur® HBS 600 bainitic steel in fine blanking test

In the “Fine Blanking Working Group” (Arbeitskreis Feinschneiden, AKF), led by the Manufacturing Technology Institute (MTI) at RWTH Aachen University and refocus consulting GmbH, thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg is conducting research into fine blanking technology in collaboration with other steel processing companies. This research network investigated how well different steel grades can be fine-cut under actual series production conditions – especially for particularly challenging component geometries.

The result: our bainitic steel precidur® HBS 600 demonstrated outstanding cut surface quality even with complex inner and outer radii – and that at all critical points. In direct comparison with other commercially available materials in similar strength class, precidur® HBS 600 impressed with flawless cut surfaces, 100% good parts, and low edge pull-in. While other materials tended to crack, precidur® HBS 600 remained stable and reliable even under highly demanding process parameters.

The tests confirm that precidur® HBS 600 offers excellent local formability, setting new standards in terms of process reliability and component quality in fine blanking.

Count on bainitic steels from the precidur® HBS brand by thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg and benefit from state-of-the-art materials technology that makes your production more efficient and safer.
