Pooling expertise

In 2000 we joined forces with customers to establish the communication platform “Initiative Lebensmitteldose” (the food can initiative). Our shared aim is to improve the image of the food can in order to drive market development in positive directions. The objectives are to educate people about the variety and quality of canned foods and to deepen knowledge about food cans as such. In doing this, we also cooperate with similar pro-can initiatives throughout Europe.

Communication platforms for promoting packaging steel

thyssenkrupp works at a pan-European level with the Brussels-based organization Steel for Packaging Europe.

In addition, we work with our customers through the international communication platform Metal Packaging Europe (MPE) and the national platform Verband Metallverpackungen (VMV) to strengthen the voice of metal packaging in the market.

Living product stewardship

thyssenkrupp is one of the most important suppliers of packaging steel to Germany and Europe. We take our responsibility to assume product stewardship very seriously. Through two subsidiaries we ensure that steel packages used for industrial and household products are recovered and returned to the steel making loop.

As an active member of the board of AGVU, a working group on packaging and the environment, we collaborate with retailers and industry to represent joint interests at federal and state level within Germany regarding packaging policies.
