FAQ about the trainee program

Are there fixed start dates?

In general positions at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe are advertised and filled as required so there are also no fixed start and application dates for the trainee program. You can start on the 1st of any month.

What is the right route for me – trainee program or direct entry?

The decision depends on a number of factors so we are unable to provide a general answer to this question. Ideally you should read our trainee program and direct entry sections before making a decision and contact one of our advisors if you have any questions.

What fields of study have the best chances?

First things first – your personality is the deciding factor, not your field of study. However, in our sector graduates in engineering, science and business studies (above all controlling) are needed most frequently.

Do I need to have gained international experience already?

No. Prior international experience is of course desirable but not a condition for participation in our trainee programs.

Are trainee programs better than the direct entry?

No, they are simply a different way to join us. Which route is better for you and which you ultimately choose depends on various factors. Whether you have completed a trainee program or come to us directly has no bearing on the question of what subsequent career opportunities are open to you. The trainee program is the more typical route into thyssenkrupp for young graduates.

How long does a trainee program run for?

The thyssenkrupp Steel Europe AG trainee program runs for 12 months.

Can I also work abroad during the trainee program?

An international assignment during your trainee program is generally possible and desirable. However, we cannot guarantee that it will always be possible to arrange one. Details will be agreed with you on an individual basis.

Will I receive a permanent contract after completing the trainee program?

Our trainees are tomorrow’s executives so a fixed position is planned for all trainees from the outset. Assuming the trainee program is a success for both sides, the intention is always to take trainees on permanently.
