smartform® shapes high-strength steels

With the innovative, patented smartform® technology from thyssenkrupp steel, ultra-high-strength steel grades can also be processed in the cold forming process in a process-reliable, dimensionally stable and almost spring-free manner.

The best scenes from a year SolarCar project

From Bochum University of Applied Science all the way to the World SolarCar Challenge in Australia: Our student journalist Toni wants to know and accompanies the thyssenkrupp blue.cruiser on its fast ride from an idea directly to second place at the World Championships in Australia.

We are thyssenkrupp Steel

Who we are, what makes us and what we are standing for since 125 years.

Flying to the moon

Switzerland-based RUAG Space is developing a motor for a rock drill for future moon missions – and needs an electric drive that delivers peak efficiency at minimum weight, because every extra gram is an expensive proposition in space. And the obvious choice was our powercore® brand electrical steel.

The heat is on

Making steel is hot work. Hot enough that we can even find ways to use our process heat to benefit a lot of people.

Water Cycle

Steel is like a soft-boiled egg. It needs to be immersed just right in water. And ideally, this water should be reused as often as possible.

Our technology is a learning opportunity

Stimulating an affinity for technology in young people is vital for our country's future. But unfortunately, school curricula don't offer much scope for such efforts.

Steel: top recycling rate

Many people dream of living forever. Our steel is living the dream. And this endows it with a decisive product advantage that ultimately makes it the valuable material it is.

New transformer-generation

Europe’s transformers alone will have to save a volume of electricity equivalent to half of Denmark’s annual consumption by 2021. Our powercore® trade mark electrical steel will help achieve this goal

A Breath of Fresh Air for Generating Power

Wind towers aspire to reach great heights: After all, the taller they are, the more power they generate. Our patented TetraFlex® technology allows them to easily and inexpensively reach heights of over 150 meters.

Hohenlimburg precision strip

The Precision Steel business unit employs a state-of-theart rolling mill to produce hot-rolled strip with special material properties and extremely close manufacturing tolerances. All processes are fully automated and are controlled and monitored by digital systems.

Innovative steel wheels for China

We will soon be bringing lightweight and designer wheels to the streets of China, together with the Chinese market leader for steel wheels.

The thyssenkrupp blue.cruiser

Soak up the sun once, please! The thyssenkrupp blue.cruiser is the third solar vehicle we have developed together with the Bochum University of Applied Sciences.

Colors are not just for washing

The Constructa made by BSH Hausgeräte has been washing clothes thoroughly and gently for decades - all around the world. This model in retro design brings a heaping portion of color and individual decorative motifs into any laundry room. Our organically coil-coated pladur® Aesthetic Print-brand steel makes this possible.

Nuts from ültje simply taste great

And with each can, you also hold in your hands a product of ours: our high-quality rasselstein® brand tinplate perfectly protects the sensitive nuts from oxygen and light.

Tomorrow's mailbox is smart

Even when you're not at home, this innovation from Renz accepts and returns merchandise for you. The myRenzbox can take a lot. Our sheet steel, of which the doors and housing are made, make this possible.

Flawless finish

The Mini Hatch model made by BMW is an attractively bright and shiny presence on our streets. The high-quality ZM Ecoprotect® finish help to ensure that these cars remain that way over their entire lifespan.

Tableware lasts for generations

Our steel for enameling also makes kitchens more colorful.

A garage door for every dream

That's what Hörmann is all about. With our pladur® brand film-coated steel there are virtually no limits to decorative freedom.

OpenHybrid LabFactory

The Open Hybrid LabFactory works together with partners of auto industry, science and research to create lighter vehicles.

Animation race track South Korea

When Toni Eggert is racing down the icy track at speeds of up to 140 kilometers per hour, he has to know he can trust his partners. This includes his teammate Sascha Benecken and thyssenkrupp, who provides development support. He also has to adjust himself optimally to the race track. Despite the best preparations, however, there is always a residual risk. Have you become curious? Then why don't you join us on the race track in South Korea in the animation?

Energy efficiency of steel

Case study: Wind turbines by Enercon.

Of course wind turbines save CO2 in power generation. But is that also true for their production and their entire lifecycle? Together with ENERCON thyssenkrupp Steel Europe implemented a logistics and production concept that shrinks the carbon footprint of wind turbines by a few shoe sizes.

Dual-phase steels - the new variety

A product range with so many options – thyssenkrupp’s dual-phase steels can be used in many ways.

Many criteria must be met if a company wants to be successful in the automotive industry, such as being environmentally friendly, conserving raw materials, and keeping costs low at all times. Yet demands placed on safety and comfort are rising. But it is not difficult to design lighter vehicles and make them affordable, as the Product Management area in thyssenkrupp’s Steel division has oriented its product range for cold-rolled dual-phase steels more toward the needs of customers and added new grades.

scalur®+Z: Precision savings!

In the 1.5 to 2 millimeter thickness range scalur®+Z displays a thickness tolerance of plus/minus 0.06 millimeters – literally a hair’s breadth. So, scalur®+Z saves weight – in shipping containers, cars or trucks. It is also suitable for low-roughness, high precision punched parts. Furthermore, a coil of scalur®+Z on average contains 60 meters more material which reduces retooling times at the customer’s plant.

tribond®: A strong combination

tribond®is our innovative materials kit. It brings together materials previously regarded as difficult or impossible to combine, opening up completely new material worlds and applications.

ZM Ecoprotect®: Less is more!

Galvanized steel sheet is the basis for the production of cars – the “skin and skeleton” as it were.

By adding a small amount of magnesium to the zinc coating, engineers from thyssenkrupp’s steel division have made a big difference for the environment and customers: ZM EcoProtect conserves resources by allowing extremely thin coatings, enables presses and equipment to run longer thanks to lower abrasion, and extends the lifetime of car bodies.

New fabric filter for sinter plant

The filter is to go into operation in early 2017

At the end of 2015 thyssenkrupp’s steel division started construction of a further modern fabric filter in northern Duisburg. In the future it will further reduce dust emissions to make for an even better environmental situation in Duisburg.
